WELCOME TO AESTAS MUSICA INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL OF BAROQUE MUSIC AND DANCE

Spend ten days exploring the world of Baroque vocal, instrumental and dance performance, in the beautiful City of Varaždin. Aestas Musica International Summer School attracts serious musicians, students and young professionals from all over the world with an interest in historically aware performance. The emphasis is on chamber works and the exploration of music for ensembles of various kinds. Join the unique musical journey through variety of baroque styles and their influences.

Course schedule: TEACHING PROGRAMME AND SCHEDULE:

Aestas Musica Summer School invites serious musicians, students and young professionals from all over the world with an interest in historically aware performance practice. The emphasis is on chamber works and the exploration of music for ensembles of various kinds. Tuition takes place in the historical surroundings of baroque style Erdödy Palace of Varaždin's School of Music.

DAILY SCHEDULE:

9:15 – 9:45:	dance warm-up for all participants.
10 – 13:	individual tuition, masterclasses, choir, dance
16 – 18:	individual tuition, choir, chamber music, dance
20 – 21.30:	orchestra rehearsal

INSTRUMENTALISTS: Previous experience in historical performance is not essential and we are able to assist string players who do not own their own baroque instruments by providing period bows and gut strings. Modern oboe players are welcome.

VOICE: classes for those pursuing a professional career as well as those wishing to improve their amateur performance. Audition for the final production's solo roles (open to ALL singers) will take place on August 24 and 25. Existing chamber vocal ensembles have an opportunity to widen and improve their repertoire. Singers are expected to participate in the choir too.

DANCE: Exploration of dances from European courts, from the Renaissance through to the late baroque. This course is open to professional and amateur dancers and also musicians who are willing to find the roots of music they often play, such as the baroque suite. Please bring dance shoes.

CONCERTS: The tutors perform one public concert. The participants will have the opportunity to perform solo and chamber works in two public concerts. Admission is free for the Summer School participants. Choir performance in the Cathedral as part of the Mass.

FINAL PRODUCTION: C.Monteverdi «Ballo delle Ingrate» . The work on the Summer School will culminate in a semi-staged performance in Varaždin's baroque style theatre. All participants will take part in the production.

The intensive daily program starts with a dance warm-up and singing session for all participants. Throughout the day, tuition and masterclasses are given by the tutors in the historical surroundings of Erdödy Palace of Varaždin's School of Music. During the week the tutors give a concert of chamber music and the participants will have the opportunity to perform solo and chamber works in public concerts. The work on the course this year will culminate in a performance in Varaždin's baroque-style theatre. All participants will be able to take part in this production.
